Day of Caring
The 2007 United Way for Cortland County Campaign is well on its way. The 11th Annual Day of Caring, September 20, 2006, marked the beginning of our 69th year of supporting programs in local agencies.
A hot, hearty breakfast was served at Homer Intermediate School. Participating businesses closed shop for the day and offered their specials talents to our community agencies. Projects included, but were not limited to, painting, gardening, masonry work, and cleaning projects. Some of the projects included assembly of new playground equipment at Cortland Child Development Programs, building of horseshoe pits at Walden Place, and painting at the YWCA.
We also collected food at Cortland Youth Bureau to stock the shelves at our local food pantries.
It was a wonderful day with plenty of smiles and good spirits among the volunteers. It was a chance for all of us to show what matters to all of us - giving back to our community.
