American Red Cross volunteers respond to fires, floods, wind storms, blizzards, and other disasters providing shelter, meals, clothing, shoes, needed prescriptions, personal items, clean up kits, groceries, household items, and other needs on a case by case basis. AFES (Armed Forces Emergency Services) provides emergency verification/communication for military personnel and their families in the event of family illnesses, deaths, births, and other crisis. Blood services provides blood drives for blood to be donated thus assisting the Regional Blood Center in the collection of over 1,000 units of blood needed daily for hospitals' patients throughout New York State and Western Pennsylvania excluding only New York City. Approximately 60 bloodmobiles are being held annually throughout Cortland County to help meet the need of patients. Health and Safety offers free Blood Pressure Screening in the City of Cortland four times a month and in Cincinnatus monthly. Health and Safety provides free demonstrations and mini-first aid courses for organizations and groups. CPR and First Aid are offered weekly and you may sign up online at www.redcross.org/ny/cortland. Many new changes are in progress to offer AED (Automatic External Defibrillator), Back Injury Prevention, Slips, Trips and Falls, Ergonomics, Stress Management, and Your Heart Matters. American Red Cross' Water Safety courses are offered at the YWCA. A "Learn to Swim" program is offered annually in conjunction with the City of Cortland's Youth Bureau at Suggett Park, Wickwire Pool. Community Services offers emergency utility assistance to individuals or families in a shut-off status or without fuel oil/propane gas or in need of repair for heating equipment. Three different energy emergency programs are administered by the American Red Cross and have different guidelines. All three programs are last resort and are only available after all other assistance has been exhausted.

Catholic Charities - offers teen services to pregnant, parenting or at-risk teens- tutoring and mentoring assistance, Young Men's Club for young men between 12-21 who want to reconnect with school, employment and family, an Emergency Assistance Program which includes emergency transportation, emergency prescription medication, work related materials and clothing and the Community Food Pantry. Community Food Pantry is open every weekday offering nutritional three-day meal packages to many underemployed families who need regular supplementation to their monthly grocery purchases. The Christmas Basket program targets needy families in all areas by delivering a complete Christmas meal.

Lime Hollow Nature Center - guided trails for hikes, interpretive talks and programs, day camps for youth, on site and in school environmental education

Mental Health Association (REACH) - Family support program, REACH - Basics, consumer affairs, Mental Health Digest, Children's Issues Newsletter, and Mental Health Monthly. Mental health consultation and referrals.

Salvation Army - Comprehensive emergency assistance, community meal program, seasonal assistance, more than 10 youth and developmental programs

YMCA - Swim & gymnastic programs, pre-school plus, after school program, vacation camps, youth & government, family focus programs

YWCA - Fitness and recreation programs for children and adults, preschool childcare, Before/After School care, Universal Pre-K, Summer Camps, Drop-In Childcare, Aid to Victims of Violence, Bridges for Kids, Breast and Ovarian Cancer Awareness.
